Painting for me is more than recording a stylized depiction of a subject. As an artist my motivation lies within the mixing of the paint and its application on canvas. While holding a palette knife I am very aware of the energy I fold into each pile of paint. Somewhere in between tradition and abstraction I find a way to portray what I see with texture, color and conviction. The impasto technique gives me this freedom. My paintings are achieved in one sitting, allowing me to preserve the buttery texture of my medium. Some of my inspiration comes from the use of light and shadows by Wayne Thiebaud, the bold strokes used by Vincent Van Gogh, the simplicity of Giorgio Morandi and the abstract expressionism of a former mentor, Carolyn Meyer.
